Snusa Recs! and more...

Hi my dears!

Well, there are few fandom moments as exciting to me as receiving my snupin_santa gift every year, and today was that day for me!! Hooray! Even more exciting- *drumroll*

I GOT ART!!

1979 is an illustration for my Lusty Month of May fic of the same name from a couple years ago. This is a fabulous piece showing a back alley rendezvous between young (post-Hogwart's) Remus and Severus, with both of them dressed in their '70's best. I hope you go over, check out the pretty, and leave my dear Santa some feedback. Mmm, Remus's shirt. Mmm, Severus's skinny butt. Mmm, hand in Severus hair...MMMM! I feel really lucky to get such a passionate and personal gift. HOORAY!

While I'm here, I'll share a couple of other recs from Snusa:

A Romance This is an amazing AU, with Remus and Severus both working on the American railroad. What, you say? Yes, the railroad. I boggle at the amount of research/familiarity this author included about work with trains- I was totally absorbed in the world of the fic. Not only that, this is just a fabulous romance. The chemistry between the boys is steamy, there are some fun obstacles to their attraction, and the backstory resonance with canon is totally amazing. There is a good dose of humor as well: Remus's orphaned cat "Hairy" for example. A great feel-good read!

Flight of the Marauder I guess I'm into AUs this year! I really enjoyed this mystery, another brilliant casting of canon characters in a unique setting. In this story, Inspector Severus Snape is on the trail of a gang of thieves (who call themselves the "Marauders", ahem). What I liked here was that the plot is completely unpredictable and gets into some interesting and serious social issues once Severus tracks the criminals down. Of course, sparks fly between the inspector and one of the robbers (who goes by the name "Moony"). Yum. All very well written, with a good dose of Victorian era detail and a steampunk aesthetic.

More recs soon- I've liked many!

Also, thanks [info]snegurochka_lee and [info]celandineb for snowflakes back in the snowflake flurry! *HUGS* Sorry I missed that whole thing so I couldn't return the gifting!

the sweet taste of freedom

Guess who is done with finals, omfg.

Tomorrow I am going to celebrate by doing laundry. Which doesn't seem exciting, but I am down to the Clothes I Never Wear. Which is also a good indication of what needs to go in the donate pile.

ALSO I AM GOING TO DRAW. My god, am I going to draw. Later when I am a little less DONESQUEE, I will post some shots of my projects. I am pretty damn happy with them.

A day of not-quite rest

Although I did not set my alarm, and therefore slept in until almost 9. Walked Juno, finished and mailed a bunch of holiday cards, and ran several errands. I cannot find currants anywhere; I have now tried 6 different stores. Feh. Will have to sub raisins if I make either of the two recipes I have that use them.

Tomorrow I may go see Fantastic Mr. Fox, possibly with SO; it seems to be leaving the local cinema after tomorrow, but SO rarely wants to go to films any time not on a weekend (and he still has grading to finish anyhow). Also must pay for/pick up this month's co-op order (once again featuring expensive chicken). And write fic! Eep - still a lot to do on the Yuletide fic. I also need to start working on the vest I am making for SO's present (he's getting several other smaller things, but that's the big gift from me). On the agenda in the next few days, job search stuff and work on encyclopedia article. Starting to deal with the pigsty that is my office would be nice too.

Today's [info]3fan_holidays fic was fluffy Harry/Neville. Today's ficlet from me was Good Omens:
  • Revision [Aziraphale/Crowley, general]: Aziraphale is frustrated, and Crowley has an idea. Here at IJ.

[info]real_life_rosy

Updateroo time.

So, tomorrow is Christmas-Palooza. I'm cleaning my room and my bathroom in anticipation of peoples. I'm wrapping presents, making cookies, and doing Christmas cards (If you haven't sent me your addy DO IT NOW!!!). It's been a fun few days since Mom got home from her foot operation. Apparantly, revised plan A is that she has to keep a splint on for two weeks, Better than a cast for six, but still. So I'm pretty much in charge of making Christmas. ...yay.

Got to see the car yesterday when I went to retrieve a few things before the Insurance company moves it to their storage facility. ...you can see the engine where my drivers' side headlight used to be. O.O Quoth my dad "...how did your airbag not go off?" We're all pretty certain that the insurance agency is going to total it. I'm hoping for enough to pay off the last of the car loan and put a downpayment on a new car. And I do mean a NEW car. First of the year car sales... always a good thing.

Other than that... not much going on. Work on the Pengi Hat continues... once it's finished I'll put up pictures and provide the pattern for anybody who wants to use it. ^_^

In other news

Okay, this apparently didn't post yesterday, so now it gets edited.

The semester is finally DONE!!!! Final was yesterday morning, followed by ATI maternity/newborn test (which was full of stuff we never covered, which is worrisome in terms of NCLEX preparedness), followed by lunch and drinks at Margaritaville. I am now a fan of Bama Breezes. Taste like creamsicles. Mmmmm. Also possibly stronger than they taste, or I was tireder than I realized, because I proceeded to come home and lie down for a nap at 3pm from which I woke at 1am. Up for a few hours, then slept until almost 10, did very little all day, barely scraped through a Curves workout with my muscles fatiguing like crazy very early on, and then slept 10 hours last night. And I could easily fall asleep where I sit here in the tutoring center today. Yeah, a little wiped, apparently.

No grades yet. Classmates are freaking. Grades are now up. B+. *kisses 4.0 goodbye* Ah well, had to happen sooner or later. I'm unsurprised by the delay, despite my classmates' frenzy. I wouldn't have expected them until this evening at the soonest, especially considering they said they'd withhold them until we did the instructor evals, which were not even up on Blackboard until late this morning. (That's right up there with the lead instructor saying, "Some of your classmates seem to think that the reason we're holding the exam on Monday instead of Thursday is that the faculty have somewhere to be." Er, no. That's what we all think, because you told us so and polled the class to be sure everyone could make it on Monday so you could all go do your big faculty meeting thing. But yeah, that's just an irresponsible rumor. Gods, am I glad to be done with her.)

Haven't sorted the English 102 thing yet. It's not showing as accepted on my unofficial transcript, but I'm not clear on how I'd find out if it were rejected. Or what I'd be supposed to do next in that case. Thus I'm not yet registered for the spring. Really want that fixed by the end of this week. I am now registered for spring, though English 102 is still not resolved. May end up taking the CLEP or something if the course substitution doesn't go through. Really, really not wanting to actually take the class if at all humanly possible to avoid.

Have written almost 1900 words on TFTWSD today yesterday and almost 600 so far today. There's definitely some back-of-the-mind pressure to get as much as possible written before the DW Christmas & New Years Specials, even while realizing that there's no way this monstrosity could ever be other than AU. Sort of like the way I kept trying to finish off TKWIA before DH came out, and I think I actually did push myself to get at least the chapter with the final battle stuff in it up before then. So that I couldn't go back and change it or some such. Of course, I could always wait until the things are legally available over here and Netflix them, which would give plenty of more time, but there's no way that I wouldn't end up spoiled in the meantime. So, uh, no.

Speaking of Christmas, it'll be interesting to see if having the semester done so early does anything to improve my holiday spirit, which has been downright Grinch-like this year. This is probably due more to family drama than anything else, because having Christmas Eve at my mother's house is likely to be, well, interesting, if Thanksgiving is anything to go by. May make an attempt to decorate and/or start on the cards this evening. That could either help or make matters worse.

Actually, I really like the idea of the Advent Conspiracy, a Christian group trying to actually focus on their "reason for the season" rather than haranguing retailers for saying "Happy Holidays." (Thanks to [info]erl_queen for the link.)

I think maybe that's part of why I'm getting weirder than usual about Christmas this year: there are other times in the year that make more sense to me, spiritually, as times for charitable giving. Not that there have to be specific times, as there is always need, but it does resonate in a certain way when there is some connection like that. And this season does make sense to tie in that way for Christians. But it really isn't my holiday anymore. It's become something that I observe, and only superficially, because my family does. And without the spiritual resonance it used to have, my tolerance for the family drama that ensues has apparently dropped to a very low point, and that seems to be coloring my perception of the whole season. Which is all very jumbled together, but that's about where my head is right now. I'm having a hard time even getting particularly geared up for Dendraia and Winter Festival on Sunday, which is actually kind of odd.

Babblebabble.

Wow, had two whole tutees today. Most folks are done with finals, so it's been quiet thus far. I'm actually hoping for more to come in to keep me awake. Otherwise, I'm pretty much going to turn into a zombie, I think.

[info]cluegirl

One step closer.

I had my last evaluation interview today, wherein the SACVAP volunteer coordinator went over my case studies with me. At the end of which, she gave me my ER escort paperwork, we shook hands, and I added my name to the January on-call list in three places. I don't have the piece of paper yet, but I think I'm prepared to call it official --

I am now a Sexual Assault and Crive Victim's Advocate for the State of New York.

Go me!

horrors, oohing, and recs

Horror #1: so-called unicorn on Etsy. My own reaction was a distinctly un-eloquent "What the -- EWW!" (which is rich, considering my own reputation for sick nonsense). My favorite reaction has been LJ:hugh_mannity's "Fair enough use of a stillborn lamb, but the horn's just wrong." (I wish he was kidding. Again, EWWW.)

Horror #2: Reading the plot of Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning. Again, kinda rich coming from me, given how I have no qualms about inflicting character death and alternate universe in my own fanfic. But still, I thought "A Continuing Story" was dreadful from start to end (with the sole exception of Anne and Gilbert's reunion clinch), and this sounds like more of the same. Ergggggh.

Ooh-ing: The Blythes Are Quoted. I read the old edition of The Road to Yesterday back in high school, and that there's now more - ooh, yes. *adds to wishlist*

Rec #1: The Howling Moon at Snupin Santa. NC-17, 17K, warnings for "underage sexual activity among same-age teens, frottage, oral, hand-job, dub/non-con, bestiality/werewolf sex, angst, smoking." Author notes that "this story diverges from canon around the time of the Shrieking Shack incident, for reasons which will (hopefully) be apparent from the text." Why it stood out for me: outstanding portrayal of Severus/Lily friendship (there's a scene where they do the best-friends-making-out thing, and it's awesome), inventive plotting, and a lovely imagining of a happier alternate storyline.

Rec #2: Veiled Christmas at Kinky Kristmas. NC-17, 4555 words, kinks/Themes include "threesomes, bondage, gags, cockrings, pegging, piercing, voyeurism, breathplay, cockgagging, dirty talk, facials, and pervy use of the Death Chamber and Veil." Author's summary: "Teddy has finally found an intimate connection to his parents -- in the Department of Mysteries. Victoire, on the other hand, has found an entertaining idea of what to do with it." Hands-down THE filthiest fic I've read this season so far (*watches half of friendslist immediately scamper off*), and Victoire is so much a chip off the old cursebreaker. This exchange between her and Teddy (as she's ordering him to strip) made me laugh out loud:

"I used two Hittite locking charms, one Mayan, and one Etruscan. I do not think they will come in here even if they had cause."

" 'Less they called your Da," he commented as he let his trousers fall to the ground. The realization of what he said and what it would mean hit him like a brick to the face about three seconds later.

Other Warnings: Small, easy-to-miss tattooage/piercings! Mild cousincest! Mysteriously alive Sirius! Improbably high heels! A sex-god!Sirius sandwich! Harry's collarbones! No chan, though.
Artist's Notes: Deviant #62, I tried to incorporate as many of your kinks as possible -- say, have one of them sit alone in a shady corner while voyeuristically masturbating to the post-striptease crossdressed roleplay spank fucking -- but all of the boys wanted to jump in on the action and I was nigh powerless to prevent them. Hope you enjoy this anyway! It was loads of fun to draw. Contrary to whatever the title may imply, this piece contains absolutely zero character death. Photo reference used. :)
